We were playing at the mall play area early this morning and a man scolded Esme (shaking his finger at her) because her foot bonked his granddaughter's (about 3 years old) face when climbing up the stairs to the slide. Esme was in front of the girl and had no idea what even happened. I almost came unglued, but kept my cool. I probably should have said something, but I was pretty upset and didn't know if I could find the right words. I had no words...I was shocked!
I am actually surprised Esme didn't get upset. She's not used to being spoken to that way. If she had reacted, I would have definitely said something.
I felt bad the girl got hurt, but really...you have to scold my daughter?? She didn't even know what she did! A gentle, "Be careful" would have been more appreciated. Or perhaps it could have been a teaching opportunity for his granddaughter...to give some space between her and the child in front of her on the stairs. They're little kids!
Fortunately, they left soon after!
Ugh, how frustrating! The nerve of that guy! So many challenges as a parent. Good thing you kept your cool and Esme wasn't effected by it.
