Oregon strawberries are absolutely, in my opinion, the best strawberries. They tend to be much sweeter, and brighter in color, then berries from other parts of the country (primarily California). It could be, in part, because we can get Oregon berries so fresh, but nothing is better than a fresh Oregon strawberry...particularly the Hood strawberry variety! Strawberries are in season here, and the Hood strawberries are only available for just a couple weeks.
This past week we decided to take the girls strawberry picking. I thought we could be crazy thinking we could manage a couple toddlers in a strawberry field, so we recruited my mother-in-law to help us out. The girls, however, did fantastic and they fully enjoyed themselves...stuffing their mouths with fresh strawberries. They couldn't seem to get enough of them, and Esme even threw a bit of a fit when it was time to head home. She wanted to eat more strawberries.
The funny thing is, however, that the girls have not been terribly excited about strawberries since coming home with our freshly picked berries. Maybe they just taste better on the farm!
Here are some pictures of our little adventure...
We also found a nest of baby birds among the strawberry plants...
