Today is Friday, and my girls are 52 weeks old today. Their 1st birthday is actually this Sunday (March 4th), but they were born on Friday of last year making today their 52 week birthday. :)
A year ago today, we decided with my doctor that it was in all of our best interest that I be induced. I had come down with PUPPP (Pruritic Urticarial Papules and Plaques of Pregnancy) and was itching miserably for a couple weeks. It's basically a rash that just itches more than you could ever imagine. I was miserable and had scratched so much in my sleep that, when it didn't keep me awake, I was waking up with my legs bleeding. It was awful. Fortunately, there is no harm to mom or baby(ies) with this condition. You're just miserable.
So, on Thursday (the next day), I headed to the hospital for my induction. This was something I said I would never choose, but circumstances change and I'm not sure how much longer I would have made it. I was 38 1/2 weeks pregnant when the girls were born, and I had been dilated to 2cm for a couple weeks with not much change. They just didn't want to come on their own. I'd like to say that if I were to do it over again that I would skip the induction and just wait for them to come, but I'm not sure. Then again, I HATED the whole induction process! I would probably have held out a little bit longer. I'll try to remember this if there is a "next time."
Here is a picture of me the day before we headed to the hospital (Wednesday). You can just see, by the look on my face, how miserable I was. Sorry for the blurry picture, but that's what we got!
